When your situation changes
Marriage, birth, job loss — update your plan anytime.
Life changes fast. When you get married, have a baby, move to a new state, or experience other major life events, you can update your Benefi plan to keep your coverage current. Most changes take effect immediately once processed.
What counts as a qualifying life event
Certain situations let you make changes to your health coverage outside regular enrollment periods. The most common qualifying events include:
Common qualifying life events
- Marriage or divorce. Add or remove your spouse from coverage.
- Birth or adoption. Add your new child to your plan.
- Job changes. Update coverage when household income shifts.
- Moving to a new state. Ensure your doctors are licensed where you live.
- Loss of other coverage. Switch to Benefi when other insurance ends.
You have 60 days from most qualifying events to request changes. Some employers allow changes anytime, while others follow standard enrollment rules. Check with your HR team about your specific policy.
How to update your coverage
Making changes to your Benefi plan is straightforward. Open the Benefi app and navigate to your profile settings. Select "Update Coverage" and choose your life event from the list. Upload any required documents (like a marriage certificate or birth certificate) directly through the app.
Your employer's HR team receives notification of your requested changes. They'll review and approve updates based on your company's policies. Most changes process within 2-3 business days. You'll see confirmation in the app once complete.
For adding family members, you'll need their basic information: full legal name, date of birth, and Social Security number. New members receive their own login credentials once added to your plan.
Coverage during transitions
Your current coverage continues while changes process. If you're adding someone to your plan, their coverage begins the day HR approves the change. For removals, coverage ends on the last day of the month when the change processes.
Virtual Primary Care visits remain available 24/7 during any transition. Your prescription benefits and mental health sessions continue without interruption. If you're moving states, Benefi doctors in your new state will handle your care going forward.
