Getting lab work through Benefi
Your doctor can order labs and review results with you.
When your Benefi doctor recommends blood work or other lab tests during a virtual visit, they can electronically order those tests at a lab location near you. You'll receive the order details through the Benefi app, along with instructions on where to go and what to bring.
How lab orders work
After discussing your symptoms or health concerns, your doctor determines which tests you need. They'll explain what each test checks for and why it's important for your care. The lab order gets sent electronically to your chosen lab facility, usually within minutes of your visit ending.
You'll see the lab order in your Benefi app under "My Care." This shows:
- Which tests were ordered
- The lab location and hours
- What to do before your test (like fasting requirements)
- Your order confirmation number
Most members can visit the lab within 1-2 business days. Bring your Benefi member ID and a photo ID to check in. The lab staff will have your order ready in their system.
Getting your results
Lab results typically arrive within 2-5 business days, depending on the tests ordered. Your results appear in your Benefi app as soon as the lab releases them. Your doctor reviews all results and will message you through the app to explain what they mean.
If results show something that needs attention, your doctor schedules a follow-up virtual visit to discuss next steps. This might include:
- Adjusting current medications
- Starting new treatment
- Ordering additional tests
- Referring you for in-person care if needed
For abnormal results requiring urgent attention, your care team contacts you directly by phone. They'll help you understand the results and coordinate any immediate care you need.
Coverage and costs
Lab work ordered by your Benefi doctor follows standard medical billing. The lab bills your primary insurance if you have it. Without other coverage, you'll receive a bill from the lab facility for their services.
Your Benefi membership covers all virtual visits with your doctor to review results and plan treatment. There's no additional charge for follow-up messages or calls about your lab results through the app.
